Kriel comes to the cage accompanied by Jack Parow & Freshlyground - Army Of One. Simon Marcus has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Willem Kriel's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Willem Kriel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Simon Marcus!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kriel feints a jab promting Marcus to slip. Kriel then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Marcus slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.


It looks like Simon Marcus has been cut.

Marcus drives through with a takedown into guard.

Marcus drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Marcus jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Kriel looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marcus throws a big right hand that misses.
Marcus working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Kriel holds on and takes a little breather.

Kriel is trying to control the position but Marcus postures up.
Marcus controls from within his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kriel pulls Marcus in to control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Marcus drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Marcus drops back looking for a leg! Kriel is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kriel manages to kick Marcus off! Marcus jumps back into Kriel's guard.
Kriel knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Marcus on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Marcus misses with a takedown attempt - Kriel sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Marcus closes the distance and clinches up with Kriel, looking for a takedown. Marcus pushes Kriel against the cage but Kriel circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
We've been told by Kriel's head coaches at Black City that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Marcus goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kriel has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Marcus but great work by Kriel.

Kriel stands up and we're back to a striking position.

That was a close round but I would say that Willem Kriel will probably get the nod.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Marcus postures up.
Marcus keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kriel's head.
Marcus postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Marcus is pushing down on Kriel's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kriel is fighting to maintain full guard but Marcus has managed to sneak the leg through.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Marcus scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Kriel doesn't seem bothered though.

Kriel is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Marcus goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Kriel rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Marcus's guard! Nice work there by Kriel!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Marcus wants to sweep here but Kriel controlling him for the moment.
Kriel seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
