Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sung Rios! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Andi Edo! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Nard Betker and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Edo closes the distance and pushes Rios back into the cage. Edo has hold of one of Rios's legs. Rios is fighting the takedown attempt but Edo gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Rios working for a triangle but Edo defends it easily.
Edo stands up from Rios's guard - Edo perhaps looking for a knockout. The fight stays on the outside here - Rios looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Edo fails with a takedown attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rios tries to sprawl but Edo drives through with a takedown into half guard. Edo keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Rios is refusing to be controlled, as Edo sits in half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rios is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Edo pulls his head out easily. Rios actively working from the bottom here. Rios is trying to control but Edo passes into side control!
Edo tries to score with some ground and pound. Rios controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Edo creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Rios sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Rios could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Edo has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Edo looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Edo trying to control the position from guard on top but Rios is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Edo is in close to Rios's body, working some short punches and elbows.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rios is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Edo controlling from the top position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Edo decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Edo bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Rios's head.
It looks like Sung Rios has been cut. Edo throws a nice inside leg kick. Edo dives in and grabs Rios's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rios pushes down on Edo's head and hops out. Edo shoots for a double leg takedown but Rios sprawls well. He's pushed Edo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Rios fires out a quick counter leg kick but Edo just manages to avoid it. Sung Rios has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andi Edo. Rios gets tackled into the cage by Edo. Edo maintains the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rios tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Edo smiles and moves away.
Edo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Rios counters by clinching up. Edo is looking for a takedown. Rios is trying to pull guard but Edo has him pressed against the cage. Edo leaning against his opponent.
Edo is looking for a takedown. Edo is trying to maintain a safe position but Rios gets an underhook and turns Edo into the cage. Edo pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Edo has Rios up against the cage in a clinch.
Rios manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rios controlling Edo's posture. Edo looking to pass the guard. Rios can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Edo controls the pace. Edo passes Rios's left leg - he's now in half guard. Rios keeping hold of Edo's head, controlling as best he can. Edo content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Edo is looking to advance position but Rios won't allow it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Andi Edo dominated that round. The cut man is working on Sung Rios's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Rios looks to clinch and Edo counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. No luck for Edo with that takedown attempt. Edo pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rios gets tackled into the cage by Edo. Edo maintains the clinch. Edo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Edo tries for a takedown but Rios sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Edo has closed the distance and engaged Rios in a clinch.
Rios fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Edo looks to throw an elbow but misses. Edo lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Edo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rios does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Rios trying to control but Edo postures up.
Rios moves into full guard.
Rios not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Edo in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Edo is looking to work some ground and pound but Rios has wrist control. Edo postures up.
Edo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rios is keeping the position for now. Edo wants to control from the top but Rios keeps moving. Edo has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Rios throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Edo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Rios is looking for a triangle but Edo pushes his legs off easily.
Rios is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Edo not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Rios keeping moving, preventing Edo from controlling successfully.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Edo fails with a takedown attempt. Sung Rios has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andi Edo. Rios tries to close the distance and clinch but Edo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Rios moves out of the way of the counter high kick fromEdo. Rios defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Edo. Rios tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Edo manages to circle out of the way. Rios tries to clinch but Edo is having none of it. Edo unleashes a big counter combination but Rios bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Edo throws a shot to the body.
Andi Edo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Edo fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rios sprawls well initially but Edo persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rios wants to control the action here but instead Edo manages to pass to full mount! Edo looking to finish Rios with some ground and pound. This is bad for Rios! Edo tries to control but Rios wriggling away. Rios wants to hold on but Edo pushes him away. Edo sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Edo trying to control but Rios is having none of it. Andi Edo has got the better of the ground game so far. Edo controlling the position easily from mount. Rios regains half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rios is looking to control Edo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rios avoid being mounted? Edo moves into full mount! Rios won't be happy about that! Rios tries to hold on but Edo postures up. Edo working away from the top, dropping strikes. Edo can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rios is looking to escape. Edo is in the full mount, landing strikes. Edo trying to control but he's not successful this time. Edo landing strikes from the mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Andi Edo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Sung Rios's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Edo pushes Rios up against the cage in a clinch. Rios's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Edo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rios circles away. Rios tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Edo manages to circle out of the way. Edo closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Edo is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Rios pulls him back up using the underhooks. A knee to the head by Edo.
Rios is rocked! Edo lands a big right hand that drops Rios! The killer instinct kicks in and Edo finishes his opponent with a series of strikes from mount. A dominating finish by Edo!
