The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Graves shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Whelan has Graves up against the cage in a clinch.
Whelan wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Whelan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Whelan content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Graves is trying to drag Whelan to the mat but Whelan just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Whelan can't break the clinch.
Graves tries for a takedown but Whelan manages to get underhooks.
Matthew Whelan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mito Graves.
A right handed body shot lands from Whelan.

Graves tries to pull guard but Whelan won't allow it.
Whelan gets underhooks to prevent Graves's takedown attempt.

Graves tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Graves tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Whelan smiles and moves away.
Whelan tries to clinch up.
Whelan throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Graves tumbling to the canvas!
It looks like Mito Graves has been cut.

Whelan throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Whelan scoring with punches to the head and body.
Whelan trying to stand up but can't free himself from Graves's guard.
Graves being controlled here, momentarily.
Whelan postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Graves can do anything to dispel that myth.
Graves throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Graves looking for a sweep. Not yet Graves, not yet.
Whelan trying to control but Graves is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Whelan throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Graves works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Whelan sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
BOOM! Whelan lands a beautiful left hook that drops Graves. Graves tries to recover but Whelan is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Graves lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!
