Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Roy Eckert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julius Briggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Briggs comes into a darkened arena with his song building. "Axeman" By tomandandy kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Julius Briggs has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roy Eckert! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Julius Briggs! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Dillan Fox and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Eckert moves into the clinch. Briggs looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Briggs trying to control the position but instead, Eckert has worked for underhooks and has pushed Briggs into the cage. Eckert tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
A bit of stalling here from Eckert.
Briggs wants a takedown.
Eckert manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Eckert looking for a sweep. Not yet Eckert, not yet. Eckert trying to keep a closed guard but Briggs is proving a slippery customer.
Eckert has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Briggs can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Eckert has his feet on Briggs's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Eckert shoots in and gets a takedown into Briggs's guard. Briggs wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Eckert manages to pass to side control. Eckert working the head and body with strikes. Eckert not doing much here.
Eckert stands up out of the half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Eckert misses with a two punch combination.
Eckert moves into range and clinches up with Briggs. Briggs fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Eckert drags the fight down to the ground.
Eckert wants to get back to his feet but Briggs is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Eckert had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Briggs defends it easily. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Briggs got a little sloppy there for a moment and Eckert has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Briggs has managed to get both his arms back between Eckert's legs - danger averted.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Eckert has his hands on Briggs's head, controlling the position. Eckert tries to land a sweep but no joy. Eckert is adopting a defensive guard. Eckert looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Eckert is trying to control the position but Briggs postures up. Eckert looking for a guillotine here but Briggs defends easily.
Eckert has his hands on Briggs's head, controlling the position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Eckert wants to sweep but no luck. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Roy Eckert dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Eckert throws a sloppy head kick and Briggs moves out of range easily. Briggs tries to counter by closing the distance. Eckert shoots in and gets a takedown into Briggs's guard. Eckert stands up from guard. Let's bang! Eckert clinches with his opponent.
Eckert scores with a hook to the body. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Eckert. Eckert has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Briggs uses from the top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Eckert working a defensive guard here.
Briggs is breathing heavily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Eckert is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

That's one minute gone in the round. Eckert shoots in and gets a takedown into Briggs's guard. Our spies down at at Cozad MMA Montreal inform us that Briggs has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Eckert is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Eckert wants to control from the top but Briggs keeps moving. Eckert slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Eckert slips nicely into half guard. Eckert is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Eckert in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Briggs tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Eckert!
