PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rolf Bell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Quade (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rolf Bell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve Quade!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Gregory Folan and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Quade clinches up with Bell and pushes him back against the cage.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Quade.
Bell looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Quade is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Bell can't fight it off and eventually Quade manages to take the fight to the floor. Bell looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Quade's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Bell is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Quade is aware though and is defending well.
Bell could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bell throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Quade must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Bell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Quade wants to control from the top but Bell keeps moving.
Bell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bell lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Quade keeping moving, preventing Bell from controlling successfully.

Quade is looking for a triangle but Bell pushes his legs off easily.

Bell throws a big right hand that misses.
Quade controls Bell momentarily but Bell frees himself.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Quade might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Bell haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Quade is pulling down on Bell's head to control his posture.
Quade utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Quade seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Quade throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Bell tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Quade is in Bell's guard.

Bell has his foot on Quade's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Quade works his way back into a safe position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Quade is working Bell over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Quade controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Quade really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Quade wants to control from the top but Bell keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Quade shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bell fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Quade avoids it really well and circles away.
Quade avoids a punch combination nicely.

Bell is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Quade's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Quade's back!

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
You can see the frustration on Quade's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bell is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Quade knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Quade for a finish.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Quade slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Quade postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Bell is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Quade, into his guard.

Quade takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Quade manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Quade stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Quade wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rolf Bell. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Quade moves into range and clinches up with Bell.

Quade is trying to trip Bell. He has hold of a leg but Bell is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Quade persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Quade in particular looking to stall.

Bell is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Quade pulls his head out easily.

Bell moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Quade showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Bell looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Quade has picked Bell up and slammed him! Bell can't keep hold of the triangle and Quade manages to pass to side control!

Steve Quade comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Quade has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
