Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alex Shift! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, NICOLAS ROCHA! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Excellent takedown into side control there by Shift. ROCHA is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. A lull in the action here as Shift stalls from top position. Shift throwing shots but missing, from side control. Shift misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Shift staying calm. ROCHA is pushing Shift's head away, looking to escape. Shift manages to hold on to the position though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shift decides to take the fight back to the feet. Shift showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from ROCHA.
Shift decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. ROCHA trying to control from the bottom.
ROCHA tries to get to full guard but Shift has control of the leg. Shift performing his best blanket impression for a moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shift uses his free foot to push down on ROCHA's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for ROCHA. ROCHA is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Shift knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for ROCHA on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shift avoids the attempt from ROCHA to control. Shift goes for an armbar but he's not got it… ROCHA turns into him and now he's in Shift's guard.
ROCHA wants to control from the top but Shift keeps moving. ROCHA trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shift escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. ROCHA gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Shift is breathing heavily. ROCHA stops Shift from standing up. Shift not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
ROCHA gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Shift throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around ROCHA's waist but ROCHA gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Shift off to one side. ROCHA closes the distance and clinches. Shift can't break the clinch.
ROCHA wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
ROCHA controlling the action here for a moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. ROCHA successfully pulls guard.
Shift trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. ROCHA not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
ROCHA has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Shift should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, ROCHA has tightened it up now! Shift should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
