Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Ruth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Harry Duncan!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruth showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Duncan.
Ruth drops down looking for a counter takedown but Duncan sprawls and moves away.
Ruth swats away the attempt to clinch by Duncan.
Ruth half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Ruth connects with a nice looking jab.

and Ruth decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Duncan's guard.
Ruth lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Duncan can do anything to dispel that myth.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ruth is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Ruth is in close to Duncan's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Ruth postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Ruth slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Duncan told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Duncan is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Ruth asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Duncan is working to avoid the ground and pound but Ruth connects with a decent elbow.

Ruth is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Duncan knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Ruth creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Ruth remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Ruth wants to control for a moment but Duncan uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Ruth drops an elbow to the side of Duncan's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Duncan avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ruth.
Ruth looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Duncan with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Ruth landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Ruth lands strikes from half guard.
Duncan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ruth. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ruth slips a nice elbow through Duncan's hands, connecting with Duncan's forehead.
Duncan regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Ruth.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Duncan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like Harry Duncan has been cut.
Duncan is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Ruth makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ruth.
Ruth pulls Duncan in close to prevent any damage.
Ruth looking to hit a scissor sweep but Duncan is one step ahead there.
Ruth has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Duncan trying to control but Ruth is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Ruth gets to mount! Duncan was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ruth is landing with some decent strikes but Duncan is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
John Ruth overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Duncan is rocked!
Ruth fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Duncan is still in real trouble! Can Ruth finish him?
Ruth loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Duncan scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Ruth land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Ruth stands and salutes the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Ruth!
