Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fionn MacCumhaill! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Larry Mayflower! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Ivan Kurochkin and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! MacCumhaill drives through with a takedown into guard. MacCumhaill has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. MacCumhaill pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mayflower is keeping the position for now. Mayflower bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in MacCumhaill's guard. MacCumhaill looking for a sweep. Not yet MacCumhaill, not yet. Mayflower stays in close to MacCumhaill's body and controls the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mayflower drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mayflower jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Mayflower landing some decent shots from guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Mayflower's corner. There ya go! There ya go! MacCumhaill not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mayflower throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Mayflower working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mayflower controls from within his opponent's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Let's hope that Mayflower has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Mayflower slips nicely into half guard. MacCumhaill has a hand on Mayflower's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Mayflower takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Mayflower is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. MacCumhaill is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. MacCumhaill flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Mayflower anticipates the leg and manages to get behind MacCumhaill and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Mayflower slips an arm under MacCumhaill chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Mayflower has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Mayflower is squeezing on MacCumhaill like an anaconda would it's prey. MacCumhaill fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Larry Mayflower!
