Coming up we have a lightweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Jake Stevens and Andrew Johannsenn. Chooooooooon! I think Stevens might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Johnny Nash - "Stir It Up". Man, I cannot wait for this one!
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 1 losses; Jake Stevens! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 1 losses; Andrew Johannsenn! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Bruno Lombardi and John Kavanagh.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Stevens shoots for a double leg takedown but Johannsenn sprawls well. He's pushed Stevens's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Stevens clinches. Johannsenn gets control of Stevens's arms and successfully pulls guard. Johannsenn will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Stevens trying to control but Johannsenn is working from the bottom. Johannsenn is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Stevens content to stall in guard here. Johannsenn really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stevens. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Stevens avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's one minute gone in the round. Stevens drops back, looking for a kneebar! Johannsenn looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Johannsenn looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Johannsenn! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Stevens (0) vs (4) Johannsenn Johannsenn tries to advance to mount but Stevens denies him. Johannsenn slows the pace down. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Stevens can't do much from the bottom here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johannsenn thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. You can see the frustration on Stevens's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Stevens manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Stevens (2) vs (4) Johannsenn Stevens controlling the action here. Stevens tries to pass the half guard into mount. Johannsenn knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johannsenn has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Stevens is working away from the top position though. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johannsenn can do anything to dispel that myth. Stevens is looking for a kimura but Johannsenn is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Stevens to get the leverage. Stevens wants to take a breather but Johannsenn is having none of it. Stevens wants to pass to mount but Johannsenn is defending the position. Stevens seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. That's six minutes gone in the round. Stevens looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Stevens controlling the position easily from mount. Stevens manages to capitalize on a mistake by Johannsenn to take his back! Score +3 for taking back: Stevens (8) vs (4) Johannsenn Stevens controls the position. Stevens is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Johannsenn is defending well though. Stevens let's go of the attempt for now.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Stevens looking for the RNC. Stevens is persistently looking for the submission but Johannsenn is defending it well.
Stevens trying to control. Stevens has got one arm under Johannsenn's chin. This could be trouble... Johannsenn trying to control the other hand but Stevens gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Johannsenn has tapped out! The fight is over!
