PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tristan Kennedy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ethan Penny (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kennedy comes to the cage accompanied by Da Rockwilder by Mehod Man & Redman. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tristan Kennedy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ethan Penny!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Roberts and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kennedy sizes up Penny with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Penny fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Penny dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Kennedy. That did some damage!
Kennedy tries for a takedown but Penny sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Kennedy throws a low kick, looking for Penny's leg but Penny calmly moves out of range.
Penny wants to clinch.
Kennedy fails with the takedown.
Penny swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Penny dodges the punch combination from Kennedy.
Penny turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Penny doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Kennedy counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kennedy.

Penny looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kennedy is one step ahead there.
Kennedy is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Kennedy trying to control the position from guard on top but Penny is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kennedy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Penny swivels though and keeps the full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Penny is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Kennedy drops back looking for a leg! Penny is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Penny manages to kick Kennedy off! Kennedy jumps back into Penny's guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Penny is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Penny is looking to clinch but Kennedy is avoiding it.
Kennedy fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tristan Kennedy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Penny scores with a takedown into Kennedy's guard.

Kennedy has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Penny is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Kennedy.

Penny wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kennedy keeps working.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kennedy regains full guard. Nicely done.

Kennedy has his foot on Penny's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Penny works his way back into a safe position though.
Penny must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kennedy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Penny doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Penny manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Kennedy thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Penny cracks Kennedy with a big right hand but Kennedy just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kennedy is trying to control but can't.

Penny fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Kennedy keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Kennedy looks to land a combination. Penny sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Kennedy fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Kennedy closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kennedy lands in his opponent's guard.

Kennedy drops back looking for a leg! Penny is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Penny manages to kick Kennedy off! Kennedy jumps back into Penny's guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kennedy wants to control from the top but Penny keeps moving.
Kennedy is in close to Penny's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Kennedy distracts Penny with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Penny will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Kennedy connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Penny momentarily.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kennedy.
Kennedy shoots in for a takedown but Penny shows good takedown defense.

Penny fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kennedy sprawls well initially but Penny persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Penny misses with a head shot. Kennedy uses the momentum to regain guard.
Kennedy manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Kennedy is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Penny tries to reverse the position but Kennedy maintains control.

Penny wants to hold on but Kennedy pushes him away.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Kennedy, as that shot connected.
Kennedy plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Kennedy gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Penny tries to stand but Kennedy is controlling from the bottom.
Kennedy has his hands on Penny's head, controlling the position.

Kennedy looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Tristan Kennedy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kennedy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Penny avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kennedy is on top in guard.
Kennedy wants to control from the top but Penny keeps moving.

Kennedy is pushing down on Penny's leg trying to pass to half guard. Penny is fighting to maintain full guard but Kennedy has managed to sneak the leg through.
Kennedy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Penny does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Penny tries to kick Kennedy off but Kennedy keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penny trying to hold on to Kennedy's head to control him but Kennedy postures up.
Tristan Kennedy is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Kennedy working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Kennedy shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kennedy showed some decent athleticism there.

Penny is looking to get back to full guard here but Kennedy has managed to pass to side control instead.

Kennedy wants to control the pace but Penny is squirming around nicely.

Kennedy has hold of Penny's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Penny manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Penny tries to hold on but Kennedy pushes him away.
Kennedy is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Penny can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Kennedy looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Ethan Penny has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kennedy has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Penny flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.

Well Kennedy has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
