Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, rafael BJJ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Aldo! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Thiago Cunha and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! BJJ keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. BJJ looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Aldo shoots in for a takedown but BJJ shows good takedown defense. Aldo shoots in but no luck this time. rafael BJJ has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Aldo. BJJ doesn't succeed with the takedown and Aldo counters with a takedown into side control. BJJ tries to improve position but can't. Aldo looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. BJJ gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Aldo with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Aldo is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, BJJ has managed to escape the submission attempt.
BJJ is looking to get to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Aldo has control of BJJ's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and BJJ regains control of the situation pretty easily.
BJJ gets back to half guard. BJJ moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Aldo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Aldo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Aldo wants to control from the top but BJJ keeps moving. Aldo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. BJJ is keeping the position for now. BJJ keeping moving, preventing Aldo from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. BJJ is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. BJJ moves into full mount! Aldo won't be happy about that! BJJ throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Aldo because BJJ loaded up on that one. Aldo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Aldo tries to reverse the position but BJJ maintains control. BJJ throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Aldo is looking to get to half guard. BJJ is going olschool here, as he tries to force Aldo to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Aldo shrugs it off. Aldo blocking the ground and pound. BJJ really is a fat lump.
That's three minutes gone in the round. BJJ misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Aldo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Aldo regains half guard. Aldo wants to improve his position but BJJ is controlling well.
Aldo looking for submissions off his back. Aldo is refusing to be controlled, as BJJ sits in half guard. Aldo gets full guard. BJJ working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Aldo looking to hit a scissor sweep but BJJ is one step ahead there. BJJ pushing down on Aldo's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Aldo tries to roll over but BJJ keeps him under control. BJJ trying to pass the guard but Aldo defending well. Aldo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. BJJ is working away from the top position though. BJJ tries to pass to full mount but Aldo defends it. BJJ is looking for a kimura here.

Aldo is pressing down on BJJ's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Aldo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. BJJ wanted to stand there but Aldo had control of the position. Aldo manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Aldo wants to finish this one by submission but BJJ is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Aldo. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. BJJ keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Aldo has hold of BJJ's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and BJJ manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Aldo looking to control but BJJ is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Aldo tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. BJJ might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Aldo looking to secure an arm triangle but BJJ defends it well. Aldo wants to control the pace but BJJ is squirming around nicely. BJJ tries to lock up and control but Aldo gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. BJJ keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Aldo jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but BJJ manages to avoid the submission attempt. BJJ gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. BJJ wants to improve his position but Aldo is controlling well.
Aldo wants to free his trapped foot but BJJ is holding on for dear life with his legs. Aldo frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Aldo working for a submission but BJJ is keeping him at bay. Aldo jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but BJJ manages to avoid the submission attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Aldo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by BJJ, who protects the arm well. BJJ is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Aldo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Aldo working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. BJJ is looking to regain half guard here but Aldo keeps moving and retains side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Aldo wants to lay and pray for a moment but BJJ keeps working.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. BJJ connects with a good right hand that stumbles Aldo. Aldo circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Aldo scores a takedown into full mount! BJJ is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Jose Aldo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
A right-left combo lands from Aldo. Nice sprawl there from Aldo as BJJ shoots in. Aldo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. BJJ tries to roll over but Aldo keeps him under control. BJJ is working hard here to advance position. Aldo is controlling the pace.

BJJ is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. BJJ has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Aldo is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for BJJ. BJJ regains half guard.

BJJ lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Aldo! Aldo working to try and regain half guard.

Jose Aldo has got the better of the ground game so far. Aldo is trying to escape the mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Aldo wants to control but BJJ is having none of it. BJJ throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
BJJ working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Aldo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Aldo defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from BJJ. BJJ wants to finish this one by submission but Aldo is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from BJJ. Aldo tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. BJJ throws some wild stikes that Aldo manages to avoid easily.
Aldo tries to reverse the position but BJJ maintains control. BJJ misses with a head shot. BJJ thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Aldo blocking the ground and pound. BJJ tries to get up but Aldo was controlling his body and he's reversed into guard. BJJ manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Aldo manages to get himself to full guard.

Aldo keeping full guard, as BJJ tries to pass. rafael BJJ has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Jose Aldo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Aldo has his foot on BJJ's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. BJJ works his way back into a safe position though.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Jose Aldo. I've got Aldo winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
