PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pieter Daan Mostert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruce Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lee has chosen Von Thronstahl - Dressed in black uniforms as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pieter Daan Mostert!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Bruce Lee!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mostert shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lee's guard.
Lee wants to stand and escape but Mostert is having none of it.
Mostert scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Mostert landing with the ground and pound.
Mostert is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Lee pushes Mostert off and scrambles back to his feet.
Lee just misses with a punch to the body.
Mostert avoids a punch combination nicely.
Mostert throws a lazy right hand but Lee sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Lee ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mostert moves away.
Lee misses with a wild combination.
Mostert feinted with a counter takedown.
We've been told by Mostert's head coaches at Bi-Polar Asylum LV's #1 Public Training Center that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Lee misses with a double jab.

Mostert looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Mostert is trying to work for a kimura but Lee is defending well.
Mostert looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Lee with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Mostert is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Lee sees it coming and defends easily.
Mostert trying to control from half guard but Lee is working away.
Lee is trying to stand up here but Mostert is controlling him well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mostert is looking to take a break and control but Lee is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mostert prevents Lee from standing back up.

Mostert is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Mostert is looking for a kimura here.
Mostert wants to control but Lee is keeping him busy.

Mostert is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Lee doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mostert.
Lee tries to kick Mostert off but Mostert keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Mostert stops Lee from getting back to his feet.
Mostert trying to pass the guard but Lee defending well.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Mostert connects with a nice short shot to Lee's temple.
Mostert has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lee is trying to stand.

Mostert is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lee is just riding it out for now. Mostert eventually gives up the hold.
Mostert is looking to take a break and control but Lee is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Mostert seems to be looking for submissions.
Lee wants to get back to his feet.
Lee is trying to escape back to his feet but Mostert uses the scramble to pass into side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mostert is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Lee has escaped the position, nice work there.

Mostert is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lee knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Lee rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mostert moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Lee has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Mostert is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Lee misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Mostert attempts a counter takedown but Lee avoids it well and moves away.
Lee tries to bum rush Mostert with a series of wild strikes but Mostert uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Mostert drops down looking for a counter takedown but Lee sprawls and moves away.
Lee digs a good body shot into Mostert's ribs.
A combination from Lee does no damage.
Mostert tries to counter with a takedown but Lee is quick to defend against it.
Lee misses with a body shot.
Lee throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Mostert closes the distance and clinches up with Lee, looking for a takedown. Mostert pushes Lee against the cage but Lee circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Lee lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mostert circles away quickly and effectively.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lee throws a series of punches but Mostert avoids them all with ease.

Mostert looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lee is looking to escape.

Mostert is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lee defends it well.
Mostert is trying to control the action in half guard but Lee is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Lee is trying to stand.

Mostert wants to pass the guard but Lee is defending well.
Mostert is keen to just control but Lee is a slippery customer.

Mostert is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Pieter Daan Mostert overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mostert wants to take a breather but Lee is having none of it.
Lee wants to get back to his feet.

Mostert frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Mostert tries to control but Lee wriggling away.

Mostert looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Mostert landing punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mostert is trying to control here but Lee has managed to regain half guard.
Lee is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Mostert scores with a couple of nice shots.

Mostert seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Lee is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

During a confident post fight interview, Pieter Daan Mostert thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
