Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jimmy Carruthers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gregory Simmons!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Radbod Blank and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simmons takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Carruthers comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Jimmy Carruthers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jab, jab by Carruthers - just one landing.
Carruthers lands with a nice body punch.

Simmons scores with a takedown into Carruthers's guard.
Simmons looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Simmons shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Carruthers napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Simmons's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
It looks like Simmons might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Simmons misses with the ground and pound.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Carruthers comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Simmons moves forwards but Carruthers connects with a nice, crisp jab.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Carruthers is trying to break the clinch but Simmons has him pressed against the cage.
Simmons misses with a punch on the inside.
Simmons tries to score a body lock takedown but Carruthers shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Carruthers makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Carruthers is trying to break free.
Carruthers tries to break the clinch but Simmons is controlling the position.
Simmons has Carruthers pressed against the cage, preventing Carruthers from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Carruthers manages to break the clinch.
Carruthers leaves Simmons with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jimmy Carruthers will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Carruthers moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Carruthers fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Carruthers cracks Simmons with an open hand slap.
Carruthers throws a solid leg kick but Simmons takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Carruthers.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Simmons takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Carruthers's corner calls for a 1-2. Carruthers obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Carruthers will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
And Simmons tries to counter it with a takedown but Carruthers pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Carruthers works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Carruthers smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Simmons breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Carruthers lands with a nice body punch.
Simmons tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Carruthers defends well and Simmons ends up having to push Carruthers into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Simmons can do anything to dispel that myth.

Carruthers got a little sloppy there for a moment and Simmons has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Carruthers has managed to get both his arms back between Simmons's legs - danger averted.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Simmons has picked Carruthers up - he's going for a ride! Simmons dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Carruthers wants to improve his position but Simmons is controlling well.

Simmons thows a huge punch but Carruthers dodges it nicely.
Simmons content to control rather than advance.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Simmons misses with a takedown attempt - Carruthers sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
