PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Average Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aidan Sumerod (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Average Joe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Aidan Sumerod!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joe throws a hook but Sumerod avoids it easily.
Sumerod wants to clinch.

Joe tries to work over Sumerod's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Sumerod is trying to pull guard but Joe turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Joe struggles to land a body shot inside as Sumerod controls his hands.
Sumerod changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Joe fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Average Joe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aidan Sumerod.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sumerod walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Joe got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sumerod has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Joe has managed to get both his arms back between Sumerod's legs - danger averted.

Sumerod bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Joe's guard.

Joe wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Sumerod stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Joe swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Joe pulls Sumerod in close to his closed guard and prevents Sumerod from doing any damage or advancing position.
Joe's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Sumerod has picked Joe up - he's going for a ride! Sumerod dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Joe is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Sumerod scores with a couple of nice shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Joe is staying active underneath Sumerod, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sumerod accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Sumerod feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Aidan Sumerod showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Joe digs a right hand underneath Sumerod's ribcage. Sumerod let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Sumerod tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Joe smiles and moves away.

Joe goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Sumerod fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Joe makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Joe swings wildly with an uppercut but Sumerod uses good head movement to avoid it.
Joe gets through Sumerod's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Joe lands a right hand that snaps the head of Sumerod backwards.
Average Joe has scored more points in the clinch so far.

Sumerod wants the takedown. Joe is fighting it off but Sumerod persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Joe's guard against the cage.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Oh but Sumerod is tightening it up a little... Joe has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Joe reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Joe taps out! Nice BJJ there by Sumerod!
