Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Victor Mordino! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Zerk Benjamin! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Santiago Holmes and Bart Greer.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Benjamin jabbing away but nothing is landing. Mordino drops down looking for a counter takedown but Benjamin sprawls and moves away. Mordino has been working on his balance at Island Top Team, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Benjamin. Mordino shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mordino was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Benjamin wants to control but Mordino postures up. Mordino has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Benjamin is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Mordino yanks on the arm and Benjamin is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Mordino.
