PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Krause (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Manny Machado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Krause kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Heart of a Champion. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, James Krause!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Manny Machado!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Matheus Silva and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Krause misses with a takedown
and Machado makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Krause changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Machado tries to avoid it but Krause manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Machado to the ground. Machado escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Krause throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Machado's waist but Machado gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Krause off to one side.
Machado tries to counter with a clinch but Krause shakes him off and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Krause. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Krause gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Machado throws a quick inside leg kick.
Krause ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Machado moves away.
Machado looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Machado throws a one two combo.
Machado moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Machado leaves Krause with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Krause sets himself, and Machado steps forward looking for the clinch! Krause avoids it this time.
James Krause seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Machado scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Krause takes a shot to the body in his stride.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Krause misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Machado lands with a thumping leg kick.

Krause looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Krause dives in for a single leg takedown but Machado sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Machado scores with a push kick.

Machado throws a shot to the body.
Machado does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Machado lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Krause moves out of range of the leg kick from Machado.
Krause on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Machado fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Krause looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Krause shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Machado sprawls well. Machado wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Krause gets slowly back to his feet.
Machado let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Krause shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Machado but Machado pushes him off and we're back to square one.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Krause fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Machado avoids it really well and circles away.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Machado lands a jab to Krause's midsection.

Machado has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Machado scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Krause doesn't seem bothered though.
Krause tries to score a power double leg takedown but Machado sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Krause somewhat.

Machado lands a nice leg kick that just misses Krause's sensitive parts.
Machado is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Krause rather than just go for the knockout.

Krause takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Machado uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Krause.
Machado lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Krause backs up against the cage.
Machado catches Krause with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Manny Machado is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Machado lands a right hook to the body.
Krause tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Machado defends well and Krause ends up having to push Machado into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Machado now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Machado, as that shot connected.
Machado connects with a nice looking jab.
Machado lands a nice hook to Krause's body. Krause takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Krause swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Machado thows a body kick. Krause tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Nice jab there from Machado.
Krause takes a jab right on the kisser.
Krause throws a right hand that Machado ducks under and follows up with a left that Machado also avoids with ease.
Machado misses with a body kick.
Machado buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Machado has managed to clinch.
A short left from Machado.
Krause is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Machado to keep the fight standing.
Machado lands a right hand that snaps the head of Krause backwards.
Krause goes for a takedown attempt but Machado pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Machado lands a lovely overhand right.
Krause looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Machado is fending him off so far but Krause persists. Nope, Machado circles away and we're back to standing.
Machado connects with a right hand. Krause shakes it off.

Machado pushes Krause up against the cage in a clinch.
I was talking to Krause's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Machado manages to break the clinch.
Krause goes for a double leg but Machado avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Machado continues to drive forward.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Machado connects with a body shot.
Machado fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Krause.
Machado lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Nice jab there from Machado.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Manny Machado dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Machado lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Krause at a distance.
Machado ducks under a wild hook from Krause.
Machado throws out a counter right but Krause avoids it with no problem.
Machado slaps away a takedown attempt from Krause, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Krause misses with a straight left.
Machado doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Krause with a lazy takedown attempt
and Machado counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Krause gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Machado scores with a body shot.
Machado swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Krause.
Krause shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Krause. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Machado cracks a nice hook into Krause's ribs.
Krause takes one to the chin there.
Krause swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Krause shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Machado has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Krause has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Machado is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Machado working some nice short punches in the clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Machado creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Krause takes a shot to the head.


Krause is rocked!

Machado escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Oh Krause is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Machado stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
BOOM! Machado lands a beautiful left hook that drops Krause. Krause tries to recover but Machado is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Krause lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Manny Machado!
A very excited looking Manny Machado made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
The defeated James Krause had this to say: 'I want a rematch. I'll beat him in the next one, just as I did with everyone who was lucky enough to beat me in Highland Games.'.
