The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clontz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Clontz content to control rather than advance.
Clontz tries to pass to full mount but Yamato defends it.
Clontz decides to return to a standing position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Clontz closes the distance looking to clinch
and Yamato counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Clontz tries for a takedown but Yamato circles away easily
and Yamato counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
It looks like Kirk Clontz has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Clontz misses with a double jab
enabling Yamato to counter with a crisp jab.
Clontz wants to clinch
and Yamato counters with a stiff right hand.
Clontz is rocked!
Yamato connects with a jab, followed by a picture perfect straight right that sends Clontz to the canvas, out cold! What a finish by Yamato!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Akihito Yamato!
A relieved looking Akihito Yamato thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
