Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sam Peterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Micheal Burns!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Sergei Dronov and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Peterson. No joy for Burns on that attempt.
Peterson's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Peterson duly obliges.
Burns tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Burns pushes Peterson up against the cage in a clinch.
Peterson blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Peterson on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Peterson gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Burns.

Burns tries to throw a body punch but Peterson avoids it by throwing Burns back against the cage.
Burns goes for a takedown attempt but Peterson pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

and Peterson counters with a left and a right that stings Burns.

Burns throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Peterson was covering up waiting for the punch and Burns finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Burns has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Burns wants to pass the guard but Peterson is keeping the position.

Burns looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Burns is looking for a kimura but Peterson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Burns to get the leverage.

Burns is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Burns throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Peterson to regain full guard.
Burns slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Burns passes Peterson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Burns is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Peterson defends it well.

Burns wants to pass to mount but Peterson is defending the position.

Peterson trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Burns takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Burns content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sam Peterson will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Burns postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Peterson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Burns shoots in for a takedown but Peterson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Peterson fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Burns.
Sloppy strikes from Peterson. Those never looked like landing.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Burns shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Burns was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Burns cracks Peterson with a big right hand but Peterson just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Peterson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Burns on the ground.

Burns creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Peterson sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

I would just about give that final round to Micheal Burns.
I think Burns has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
