PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tony Duff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Young Gunner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tony Duff!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Young Gunner!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, John Kavanagh and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duff tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Gunner misses with a body shot.
Duff slips under a jab.
Gunner tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Duff was well out of range. Poor timing from Gunner.
Young Gunner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Duff lands a leg kick that knocks Gunner off balance momentarily.
A slow jab from Gunner misses its intended target.
Duff throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gunner.
Gunner throws a poor cross that misses
and Duff cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Duff uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gunner.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gunner lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Gunner ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Duff moves away.
Duff avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Duff half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Gunner misses the body punch
and Duff counters with a flying knee. Nice.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gunner throws a body shot but no joy.
Duff thinks about countering with a head kick.
Gunner connects with a jab.
Gunner bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Duff's head.
Duff dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Gunner loads up on a big right hand but Duff slips the punch.
A counter left hand to the body from Duff misses its target.
Duff tests Gunner's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Gunner throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Duff tries to counter with a takedown but Gunner is quick to defend against it.

Duff gets a takedown into half guard.
Duff wants to pass to mount but Gunner is defending the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Duff is thwarting Gunner's attempts to control the position.
Gunner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Duff. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Duff trying to control the action but Gunner is working from the bottom.
Gunner wants to control but Duff is keeping busy and won't allow it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Duff is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gunner defends it well.
Duff passes the guard and advances to mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Duff goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Gunner turns into him and now he's in Duff's guard.
Gunner must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Duff looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Gunner is stalling in the full guard.

Duff working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gunner doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Duff is tightening it up a little... Gunner has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Gunner reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Gunner taps out! Nice BJJ there by Duff!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Tony Duff!
An out of breath Tony Duff thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
