Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Waylon Cline! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Benrod Happy! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Happy shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cline sprawls well. Cline wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Happy gets slowly back to his feet. Nice takedown defense from Cline. No joy for Happy on that attempt. Cline leaves Happy with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Waylon Cline has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Benrod Happy. Happy gets a double leg takedown into Cline's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cline working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Happy. Cline knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Happy on the ground. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cline working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Happy. Happy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Happy working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Cline really is a fat lump. Cline wants to sweep but no luck. Happy trying to control but Cline is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Happy drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cline manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Happy has Cline in his guard.
Happy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cline doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cline manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Happy is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Cline has his hands clasped together but Happy extends and breaks Cline's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Happy.
