PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kurt Shann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Key Stone Light (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kurt Shann!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Key Stone Light!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shann connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Light momentarily.


It looks like Key Stone Light has been cut.
Shann swinging wildly here.
Shann throws a right hand that Light ducks under and follows up with a left that Light also avoids with ease.
Shann misses with a wild combination.
Light changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Shann tries to avoid it but Light manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Shann to the ground. Shann escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Shann, as that shot connected.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Shann displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Light.
Light looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kurt Shann has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Key Stone Light.
Shann misses with a series of wild punches.
Shann scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Light tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Shann swivels and escapes.
Horrible takedown attempt by Light or perhaps it was just good defense by Shann, which made it look bad.
Shann slaps away a takedown attempt from Light, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Shann fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Light is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Light shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Shann sprawls well. Shann wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Light gets slowly back to his feet.
Shann changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Light fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Light tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shann swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Shann fails to land with a series of punches.
Shann throws a right and a left that Light avoids nicely.
Shann lands a jab.

Light moves into the clinch.
Light tries to score a body lock takedown but Shann shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Light looks winded!
Light goes for a takedown attempt but Shann pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Light shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Shann napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Shann is looking to reverse the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Light controls the position.
Light tries to move into full mount but can't pass Shann's legs.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shann is not content to let Light control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shann is trying to control Light's posture but Light avoids it.
Shann is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Light advances nicely into full mount.
Light trying to control but Shann is having none of it.
Shann is looking to get to half guard.
Shann is working hard here to advance position.
Light should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
You get the feeling that Shann really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Light takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Shann is just holding on here. Light manages to take his back.
Shann is trying to stand back up.
Shann trying to control the action but Light just sinks the hooks in.
Shann tries to escape the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Light is riding his opponent, not letting Shann buck him off.
Light avoiding Shann 's attempts to control his hands.
Light controls the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kurt Shann dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Key Stone Light's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Shann throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Light.
Light shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Shann pinned against the cage. Shann gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Light takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Shann throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A punch combination from Shann misses.
Shann leaves Light with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Light doesn't manage to clinch there - Shann circles away.

and Light counters with a takedown into side control.

Shann throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Shann looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Light misses with a takedown attempt - Shann sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kurt Shann has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Key Stone Light.
Light is breathing heavily.
Light showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Shann.
Light wants to clinch up but Shann keeps it at a distance.

Shann looks to land a combination but Light avoids it well.
Shann throws a series of punches but Light avoids them all with ease.
Kurt Shann is winning the standup battle so far.
Nice cross by Shann.

Light has managed to clinch.
Light changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Shann fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Shann slaps away a takedown attempt from Light, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Light shoots for a double leg takedown but Shann sprawls well. He's pushed Light's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Shann will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Shann connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Light! He's out on his feet! Shann rushes in and drops Light with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Kurt Shann!
