PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dwayne Carter Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tora Ropez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carter Jr comes to the cage accompanied by Rise Inside by Killswitch Engage. Ropez is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Ambrosia. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dwayne Carter Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tora Ropez!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ropez takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Ropez misses with a two punch combination.
Carter Jr uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Ropez.
Ropez tries to bum rush Carter Jr with a series of wild strikes but Carter Jr uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Ropez tries to keep at a distance but Carter Jr has taken the fight into the clinch.

Carter Jr with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.


It looks like Tora Ropez has been cut.
Carter Jr digs a right hand underneath Ropez's ribcage. Ropez let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Carter Jr jumps guard and drags Ropez to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Carter Jr escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ropez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Ropez stays in close to Carter Jr's body and controls the position.

Carter Jr had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Ropez is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Carter Jr Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Ropez's back instead.
Carter Jr just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carter Jr misses with a punch to the head.

Carter Jr is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Ropez defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Ropez trying to get back to his feet but Carter Jr is in full control for now.

Carter Jr is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Ropez has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Carter Jr has the hooks in. Ropez is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Ropez is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Carter Jr off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Carter Jr keeps control of the position as Ropez tries to break free.
Ropez covering up well and avoiding damage.
Carter Jr thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Carter Jr's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Ropez is really stuck here.

Carter Jr has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Carter Jr has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Carter Jr has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Ropez has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Carter Jr is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Ropez has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Carter Jr has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Ropez taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Carter Jr doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Dwayne Carter Jr!
