PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Ringo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and To Na Area (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Ringo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, To Na Area!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ringo connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Na Area's hands.
Na Area misses with a two punch combination.
Na Area misses with the combination.

Ringo looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Ringo with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Na Area avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ringo.
Na Area trying to control here.
Ringo throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Na Area really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ringo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ringo lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Na Area is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Ringo is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Na Area looks like he's trying to stand up.
Ringo looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Still in half guard, Ringo seems content to control.

Ringo has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Johnny Ringo just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Ringo darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Ringo not doing much here.
Ringo landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Ringo slips a nice elbow through Na Area's hands, connecting with Na Area's forehead.

Ringo keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Ringo seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Na Area for as long as he can get away with.
Ringo lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Na Area pushes Ringo off looking to stand but Ringo dives back in and keeps control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnny Ringo dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Na Area waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Ringo.
Ringo scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Ringo dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Ringo lands a right hook to the body.

Ringo shoots in and bounces Na Area off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Ringo passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Ringo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Na Area is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ringo in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Na Area is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
