Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Korean Superboy Jr! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Henry! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Henry has his takedown stuffed and Henry takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Superboy Jr lands an overhand right. A decent looking cross lands there for Henry. Henry looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Superboy Jr on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Henry shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Superboy Jr's guard. Superboy Jr is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Henry with a nice head shot there. Superboy Jr preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Henry stands and throws Superboy Jr's legs to the side, diving into side control. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Henry is staying tight to Superboy Jr's torso, preventing him from escaping.
That's one minute gone in the round. Henry is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Superboy Jr has escaped the position, nice work there. Henry is chipping away with strikes.
Henry is trying to get an arm triangle but Superboy Jr is defending well. Henry is staying tight to Superboy Jr's torso, preventing him from escaping. Superboy Jr knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Henry on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Henry is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Superboy Jr is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Henry fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Henry working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Henry wants to lay and pray for a moment but Superboy Jr keeps working. Henry sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Superboy Jr is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Henry tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Henry wants to lay and pray for a moment but Superboy Jr keeps working. Henry sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Superboy Jr is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Henry throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Superboy Jr prevents Henry from moving into mount. Superboy Jr on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Superboy Jr tries to get out of the position. Henry working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Henry working the ground and pound but Superboy Jr is defending the strikes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Henry is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Superboy Jr has escaped the position, nice work there. Superboy Jr is looking for a sweep. Henry tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Henry throws a strike aimed at the side of Superboy Jr's head but Superboy Jr avoids it well. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Michael Henry dominated that round. That's time! Superboy Jr's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Henry shoots in for a double leg but Superboy Jr sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. A counter left hand to the body from Superboy Jr misses its target. Henry slips under a jab from Superboy Jr. Superboy Jr looks to score with a jab to the body but Henry is just out of range. Henry lands a jab-cross combination. Henry closes the distance and clinches up with Superboy Jr, looking for a takedown. Henry pushes Superboy Jr against the cage but Superboy Jr circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. A little feinted left hand from Superboy Jr on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Henry misses with a takedown and Superboy Jr counters with a lovely straight right hand! Korean Superboy Jr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Henry. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Henry misses with an uppercut
and Superboy Jr counters with a nice body shot. Superboy Jr lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Henry tries for a takedown but Superboy Jr circles away easily and Superboy Jr counters with a left to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Henry tries to bum rush Superboy Jr with a series of wild strikes but Superboy Jr uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Henry misses with a left hand and Superboy Jr counters with a lovely straight right hand!
It looks like Michael Henry has been cut. Henry walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Superboy Jr connects with a body shot. Superboy Jr looks to score with a jab to the body but Henry is just out of range. Henry changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Superboy Jr scores with a jab. Henry acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Henry looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Superboy Jr is fending him off so far but Henry persists. Nope, Superboy Jr circles away and we're back to standing. Superboy Jr is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Superboy Jr throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Superboy Jr enables Henry to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Superboy Jr manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Henry is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Henry missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Henry is stalling in the full guard. Henry passes Superboy Jr's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Henry content to control rather than advance. Henry is working for a kimura but Superboy Jr is defending it quite comfortably.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Henry not landing any meaningful shots this time. Henry lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Henry is pressing down on Superboy Jr's thigh, looking to free his foot. Superboy Jr is holding on for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Henry scoring with strikes to the body and head. Henry content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Henry thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Henry wants to lay and pray for a moment but Superboy Jr keeps working. Michael Henry has got the better of the ground game so far. Henry is working for a kimura but Superboy Jr is defending it quite comfortably.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Superboy Jr tries to get to full guard but Henry has control of the leg. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Korean Superboy Jr will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Michael Henry's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
Superboy Jr displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Henry.
