PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joe Rogan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Joe Rogan has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joe Rogan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ray Miller!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Saam Ante and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rogan with a lazy takedown attempt

and Miller counters with a single leg into guard. Rogan didn't expect that.
Miller pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rogan is keeping the position for now.

Rogan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Miller is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Rogan is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Miller is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Rogan trying to keep a closed guard but Miller is proving a slippery customer.

Miller slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Ray Miller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Miller fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Rogan manages to avoid it.
Some bone on bone action there as Rogan checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

and Miller counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Rogan!

Miller tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Miller has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Miller is working Rogan over with some ground and pound from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Miller lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Rogan down.
Miller wants to control but Rogan is keeping him busy.
Rogan is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Rogan bucks up and tries to throw Miller off but instead Miller has got his back!

Rogan just trying to survive but Miller is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Miller is looking for the choke from the back position but Rogan is controlling his hands well.

Miller is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Rogan trying to get back to his feet but Miller is in full control for now.

You can see the frustration on Rogan's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
What can Rogan do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

I really don't envy Rogan right now.

Miller is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Rogan knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Rogan for a finish.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Miller stuffs the takedown.
Miller shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Rogan dives in and grabs Miller's left leg, looking for a takedown. Miller pushes down on Rogan's head and hops out.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Miller.
Miller fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rogan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Miller's waist but Miller gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rogan off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Rogan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Miller drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Miller remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

A lull in the action here.
Rogan pushes Miller away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Miller gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Miller wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rogan keeps working.

Rogan is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Miller is controlling him well.

Miller postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Miller works to advance to full mount. Rogan defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Miller postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Rogan looks a forlorn figure.
Miller seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Rogan is holding on tight.
Rogan tries to lock up and control but Miller gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Miller lands a nice shot to the head.


Rogan is rocked!
Miller pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Oh Rogan is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Rogan sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Miller is trying to control. Rogan wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Rogan seems to have got his legs back now.

Miller is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Ray Miller showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Rogan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Miller shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rogan as he avoids it easily.
Rogan shoots in but Miller avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Miller closes the distance and clinches up with Rogan, looking for a takedown. Miller pushes Rogan against the cage but Rogan circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Rogan attempts a counter takedown but Miller avoids it well and moves away.
Rogan looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Rogan shoots in looking for a takedown. Miller tries to sprawl out of it but Rogan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Miller manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Miller clinches up with Rogan and pushes him back against the cage.
Rogan is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Miller has picked Rogan up - he's going for a ride! Miller dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Miller prevents Rogan from improving his position.
Rogan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Miller is working away from the top position though.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Miller in particular looking to stall.

Miller is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Rogan still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Rogan has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rogan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Miller knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Miller is doing well to control the position and prevent Rogan from advancing to side control.

Rogan is looking for a kimura but Miller is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rogan to get the leverage.
Rogan wants to pass to mount but Miller is defending the position.
Miller wants to improve his position but Rogan is controlling well.

I would just about give that final round to Ray Miller.
Well Miller has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
