Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
45 - 45 - 1, fighting out of London, Thomas Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
34 - 36 - 0, fighting out of London, Max Bear! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Steven Brown and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A punch combination from Bear misses. Bear scores with a takedown into Johnson's guard. Johnson has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Bear has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Bear gets underhooks to prevent Johnson's takedown attempt.
Bear scores with a nice hook to the head. Johnson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Bear pulls his leg out and moves away.
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt and Bear counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thomas Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bear tries a head kick but it misses.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Johnson throws a head kick but Bear moves out of range.
Bear fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Johnson, pushing him back against the cage. Johnson jumps into guard, dragging Bear to the mat.
Johnson can't keep his opponent in guard - Bear advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Bear tries to stand and escape but Johnson is controlling the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson tries to roll over but Bear keeps him under control. Bear is looking for a kimura here.
Bear has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Bear goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Johnson is on top in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johnson trying to control the position from guard on top but Bear is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Bear looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Johnson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Bear is trying to keep Johnson in close.
Bear looking for a guillotine here but Johnson defends easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Johnson wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Bear's closed guard. He's half up but Bear has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Bear pivots and extends the arm, Johnson falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Bear! Well done that man!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Max Bear! Our winner, Max Bear, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
