The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mayhew scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Mayhew working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Gekas struggling a bit here.
Mayhew tries to advance to mount but Gekas instead regains half guard.
Mayhew looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Mayhew wants to work for an arm triangle but Gekas is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Gekas is trying to stand back up but Mayhew is controlling him

Mayhew seems to be looking for submissions.
Gekas manages to get to full guard.
Mayhew passes Gekas's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Mayhew seems to be working for a kimura but Gekas defends the submission attempt.
Mayhew wants to pass to mount but Gekas is defending the position.
Mayhew is breathing heavily.
Mayhew winds up and cracks Gekas with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Mayhew moves into full mount! Gekas won't be happy about that!
Gekas is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
A nice elbow there by Mayhew.
Mayhew working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Gekas turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Mayhew off and cradles Gekas's limp body as Mayhew celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Peter Mayhew!
