Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alex Bailey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 12 - 3, fighting out of New York, Ray Lennox! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, George Francis and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lennox ducks under a wild hook from Bailey. Lennox throws a leg kick but Bailey sees it coming and checks it nicely. Bailey was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit. Bailey throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Bailey lands with a kick to the ribs.
Lennox misses with a low kick.
Bailey throws a looping overhand right but Lennox ducks down to avoid it. We've been informed that Lennox has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Lennox bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Bailey swings for the body but Lennox moves out of range.
Bailey tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Lennox was well out of range. Poor timing from Bailey. Bailey looks to land a left hand but Lennox moved out of range nicely. Lennox will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Bailey swings widly with a right hand
and Lennox counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bailey misses with a body shot.
Lennox closes the distance and clinches. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Lennox as Bailey tries to tie him up. Lennox manages to break the clinch.
Lennox uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Bailey. Lennox looks like he wants to counter punch here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bailey checks the leg kick nicely there.
Bailey scores with a jab to the body. Lennox throws a solid leg kick but Bailey takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Lennox. Bailey drives through with a takedown into guard. Lennox looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bailey throwing strikes but missing. Bailey trying to control the position from guard on top but Lennox is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lennox is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Lennox is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Bailey stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lennox swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lennox pushes a forearm under Bailey's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Bailey is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ray Lennox! After winning the bout, Ray Lennox thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
