Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Peter Batts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jese Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Batts's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Midnight City - By: M83. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jese Rodriguez ! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Alexandre Firmino and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A big left from Batts misses. Batts takes one on the button. Rodriguez tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Batts was well out of range. Poor timing from Rodriguez . Batts scores with a three punch combo!
A clash of legs there as Batts blocks the low kick. Batts scores with a leg kick.
A chopping leg kick lands by Batts. Rodriguez lands a nice looking body shot.
Rodriguez moves forwards but Batts connects with a nice, crisp jab. Rodriguez blocks a head kick by Batts.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Batts lands a really nice looking cross but Rodriguez seems unphased.

Batts lands a nice leg kick that just misses Rodriguez 's sensitive parts. Batts swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Batts lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Rodriguez shoots in looking for a takedown. Batts tries to sprawl out of it but Rodriguez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Batts manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Batts connects with a right hand. Rodriguez shakes it off. Batts lands a head kick. Rodriguez smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Batts tries a head kick but it misses.

Rodriguez throws a shot from downtown. Batts moves away and avoids it. Rodriguez throws a right hand that Batts ducks under and follows up with a left that Batts also avoids with ease. Batts changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Batts shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Rodriguez eats them both and turns towards Batts to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Rodriguez lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Batts scores with a hook. Some bone on bone action there as Batts checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Crunch! Batts slams his shin into Rodriguez 's torso. Batts works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Batts lands with a hook. Rodriguez tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Batts tries a head kick but it misses.

Rodriguez with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Batts to score with a decent uppercut. Batts connects with a high kick. Batts thumps Rodriguez with a low kick. Batts scores with a jab. Batts's jab looks to have found its range, popping Rodriguez under the eye. Peter Batts seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A jab from Rodriguez misses. A jab from Batts misses. Rodriguez swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Batts is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Batts thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rodriguez takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Rodriguez loads up on a big right hand but Batts slips the punch. A punch combination from Rodriguez misses. Rodriguez 's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Batts connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Rodriguez scrambles back to his feet. Rodriguez jabbing away but nothing is landing. Jese Rodriguez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Batts throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Rodriguez throws a series of punches but Batts avoids them all with ease. Batts lands a jab to the head.
Rodriguez attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Batts feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Rodriguez 's calf. Batts misses with a looping right. As Batts backs off Rodriguez throws a huge counter combo but Batts manages to avoid it all. Rodriguez staying out of range there. Rodriguez lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Batts circles away quickly and effectively. Batts scores with a jab to the jaw. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Batts scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Peter Batts is winning the standup battle so far. Rodriguez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Batts is fending him off so far but Rodriguez persists. Nope, Batts circles away and we're back to standing. Nice cross by Batts. Batts scores with a head kick. Batts cracks Rodriguez with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Rodriguez tries to bum rush Batts with a series of wild strikes but Batts uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Rodriguez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Batts counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Batts. Rodriguez is breathing heavily. Batts in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Batts chips away with some ground and pound. Rodriguez is looking to stand up but Batts isn't so interested in that idea. Batts slips nicely into half guard. Batts wants to work for an arm triangle but Rodriguez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Batts is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rodriguez is just riding it out for now. Batts eventually gives up the hold. Rodriguez wants to get back to his feet.
Batts is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Rodriguez still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Rodriguez has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! Rodriguez misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Batts can't do much from the bottom here.

Rodriguez is looking for a kimura but Batts is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rodriguez to get the leverage. Rodriguez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Rodriguez prevents Batts from improving his position. Batts regains full guard. Nicely done.

Batts is trying to maintain the position but Rodriguez is very close to passing his half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Peter Batts. Well Batts has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
