3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bruce Gain! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Jonathan Paton and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sunderland misses with a combination
and Gain counters with a nice double leg into guard. Sunderland is wriggling around but Gain manages to pass to half guard.
Sunderland's coaches at English Top Team - THE Hybrid Gym (11 ELITE ) have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position. Gain tries to pass to full mount but Sunderland defends it. Gain is controlling the pace.

The fighters circle momentarily. Sunderland darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Sunderland listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Sunderland fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Gain tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sunderland swivels and escapes. Gain has closed the distance and engaged Sunderland in a clinch.
Gain is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. That's going to take a lot out of Bruce Gain. Sunderland stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sunderland lands a body punch. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Gain has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sunderland is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Gain is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Sunderland misses with a body punch.

Sunderland is pressed up against the cage. Gain has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sunderland down to the mat. Sunderland avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Gain drops his hands momentarily and Sunderland takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Sunderland scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Sunderland digs a good hook to Gain's body.
Sunderland fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gain manages to avoid it. Sunderland displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gain. A quick step to the side and Sunderland tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sunderland feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Gains jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Steve Sunderland is winning the standup battle so far. Sunderland will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Gain can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Sunderland is looking to escape. Gain controlling from mount. Gain looking to secure an arm triangle but Sunderland defends it well. Gain is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Gain extends the arm and Sunderland is forced to tap!
