The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pais is looking to land body kicks. Pais throws a wild body kick that Tyler sees coming a mile off. Pais pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Pais throws a head kick that misses and Tyler counters with a slapping leg kick. Pais throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Tyler counters by clinching up. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Tyler jumps into guard, dragging Pais to the mat.
Pais must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Tyler is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Tyler working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pais doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pais manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tyler escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pais gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Pais really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tyler. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Pais is posturing up here but Tyler has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Pais tries to roll out but it's too tight and Pais has to tap! Slick submission there by Tyler!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Duncan Tyler!
