PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jonqw Fray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edward Kenway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 14 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jonqw Fray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Edward Kenway!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Paul Tew and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kenway throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Kenway misses with an uppercut.
Kenway dodges the punch combination from Fray.
Fray displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kenway throws out the jab.
Kenway lands a right hook to the body.
Kenway misses with a head kick.
Kenway avoids the body shot from Fray.
Fray lands a head shot.
Fray moves out of range of the body kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fray throws a nice head kick!
Fray connects with a jab.

Kenway pushes Fray up against the cage in a clinch.
A short body shot lands from Kenway as the two fighters clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kenway has a couple of punches blocked by Fray.

Kenway slows down the pace here.

Fray jumps into guard, dragging Kenway to the mat.
Kenway has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Fray is proving hard to escape from.
Fray looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Kenway controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Fray working for a triangle but Kenway defends it easily.
Kenway controls from within his opponent's guard.

Fray is working an open guard so Kenway takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Kenway scores with a nice right hand.
Jonqw Fray seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kenway is looking to clinch but Fray is avoiding it.
Kenway doesn't manage to clinch there - Fray circles away.
Fray changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Fray takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Kenway thows a left - swing and a miss!
Kenway is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.


It looks like Jonqw Fray has been cut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kenway uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Fray.

Fray gets the takedown into side control.

Fray tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Kenway is looking for a sweep.

Fray swings around for an armbar but Kenway sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Fray's guard.
Kenway slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Kenway trying to stand up but can't free himself from Fray's guard.
Fray wants to sweep but no luck.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Fray is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kenway defends well.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kenway would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Kenway stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Kenway tries to move into range but Fray moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Fray shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Kenway counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd cheers as Kenway lands an impressive looking overhand right. Fray doesn't seem phased though.
Kenway scores with a jab to the head.
Kenway misses with a leg kick.
Fray looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kenway is fending him off so far but Fray persists. Nope, Kenway circles away and we're back to standing.
A little jabbing left from Kenway on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Fray shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kenway pinned against the cage. Kenway gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edward Kenway dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jonqw Fray's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Fray misses with a low kick.
Fray is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Kenway fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Fray, pushing him back against the cage.
A head punch on the inside from Kenway fails to land.
Kenway working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Kenway tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Fray fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Fray gets control of Kenway's arms and successfully pulls guard. Fray will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Kenway is stalling in the full guard.
Kenway sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Fray's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Fray has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kenway is working away from the top position though.

Kenway gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Fray takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Kenway has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Kenway connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Fray moves out of range as Kenway strikes.
Kenway throws a shot from downtown. Fray moves away and avoids it.
Fray checks a leg kick.
Fray attempts a counter takedown but Kenway avoids it well and moves away.
Fray stuns Kenway with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Fray throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
A jab from Kenway does it's job there.
Fray lands a nice looking body shot.
Kenway lands with a right hand.

Kenway gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Kenway has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kenway swings away with an uppercut that misses.

A hook to the body from Kenway.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Fray jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kenway walks away with a smile on his face. Fray gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Kenway throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Fray takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Kenway tries to clinch up.
Fray throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Fray has a takedown stuffed.
Kenway throws out a counter right but Fray avoids it with no problem.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jonqw Fray. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fray swats away the attempt to clinch by Kenway.
Fray moves away from the strike by Kenway.
Fray shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kenway as he jumps to the side.

Kenway forces Fray back against the cage and clinches.
Fray tries for a takedown. No joy.
Fray misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Kenway throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Frays head.

Fray jumps into guard, dragging Kenway to the mat.
Kenway wants to stand but Fray is controlling his posture from full guard.
Kenway looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Fray is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kenway sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Kenway decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Fray ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kenway moves away.
Kenway throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A lazy left from Kenway finds it's target.
Kenway is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Kenway gets a clinch.
Kenway goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edward Kenway showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Kenway lands a nice shot that snaps Fray's head back.
Fray lands a nice hook to Kenway's body. Kenway takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Kenway slips a jab from Fray.
Kenway attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Fray with a poor takedown
and Kenway counters with a nice body shot.
Fray rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kenway moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A little jabbing left from Kenway on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Kenway throws out a powerful jab.
Kenway smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Kenway throws a looping overhand right but Fray ducks down to avoid it.
Fray has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Kenway finds it's way round the side to connect with Fray's head.
Fray lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Fray lunges at Kenway with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Kenway's hand.
Edward Kenway seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Kenway tries to clinch up.
Kenway misses with a hook. Fray ducked under it nicely.

Fray defending well as Kenway loads up on a big left hand.
Kenway throws a leg kick but Fray moved away.
Kenway misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Fray.
Kenway tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Fray jabs Kenway to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Kenway throws a shot from downtown. Fray moves away and avoids it.
Kenway throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Fray feinted with a counter takedown.
Kenway lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Kenway keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Kenway looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Fray scores with a jab. Kenway acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Jonqw Fray has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Kenway throws a jab when Fray was well out of range.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Fray.
Kenway appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jonqw Fray. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Fray avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kenway goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Kenway is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Edward Kenway is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Fray misses with the body kick
and Kenway counters with a crisp right that sends Fray to the canvas! Kenway follows up with punches from the mount and this one is all over!
