Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Davey Ivers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jaime Sparx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Davey Ivers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jaime Sparx!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sparx will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A low kick from Ivers is predictable there
and Sparx counters with a series of strikes. Ivers will be more careful next time no doubt.
Sparx shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Ivers throws a low kick but it's checked well by Sparx.
Sparx takes one to the chin there.
Sparx takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Ivers darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Sparx pushes Ivers off and gets back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sparx looks for the body kick but Ivers saw that one coming.
Ivers shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sparx pinned against the cage. Sparx gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Ivers closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sparx circles away.
Ivers misses with a takedown attempt - Sparx sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Ivers throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Ivers throws a low kick but it's checked well by Sparx.
Sparx moves out of range of the body kick.
Ivers shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sparx but Sparx pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Ivers stuffs the takedown attempt from Sparx. Sparx gets slowly back to his feet.
Ivers misses with a wild combination.
Ivers is breathing heavily.
Ivers looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sparx is fending him off so far but Ivers persists. Nope, Sparx circles away and we're back to standing.

Ivers gets caught flat footed, as Sparx shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Ivers really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Sparx's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Sparx pushing down on Ivers's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sparx in particular looking to stall.
Sparx is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Ivers scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Sparx manages to mount him!
Sparx is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Ivers can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Sparx trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ivers manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Ivers has hold of Sparx's hands but Sparx slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Sparx looks to land a strike but Ivers avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Ivers keeping moving, preventing Sparx from controlling successfully.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ivers looking for a sweep. Not yet Ivers, not yet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sparx passes into half guard.
Sparx controlling the pace.
Sparx's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jaime Sparx dominated that round.

Ivers shoots in for a takedown but Sparx shows good takedown defense.
Ivers takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Davey Ivers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Sparx counters by moving into the clinch.
Sparx goes for a takedown attempt but Ivers pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sparx is defended easily by Ivers.
Sparx tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Ivers manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Ivers goes for a double leg but Sparx avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sparx continues to drive forward.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ivers shoots in for a double leg but Sparx sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Sparx stalks Ivers and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Ivers's face. Ivers staggers backwards, shaken.

Sparx is looking for a kimura but Ivers is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sparx to get the leverage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Sparx stands up and beckons Ivers to join him on the feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sparx throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Sparx has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Sparx shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ivers's guard.

Ivers is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Ivers has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Sparx is on him like a limpet, forcing Ivers back against the cage.

Jaime Sparx showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Sparx with a flurry of punches that miss.

Ivers looking for a guillotine here but Sparx defends easily.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Ivers tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sparx sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ivers somewhat.
Ivers fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Sparx tries to clinch but Ivers is having none of it.
Ivers shoots in looking for a takedown. Sparx tries to sprawl out of it but Ivers keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sparx manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Sparx has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Ivers uses from the top position.

I would just about give that final round to Jaime Sparx.
Well Sparx has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
