Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Harris Stafford! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Diego Balboa! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Russell Pearce and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Balboa shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Stafford tries to kick Balboa off in order to stand up. Balboa Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control. Stafford is looking for a sweep. Stafford really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. The referee asks Balboa politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Balboa prefers to stall for the moment though. You can see the frustration on Stafford's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Stafford is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Balboa working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Stafford gets back to half guard. Stafford is looking to control Balboa's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Stafford avoid being mounted?
That's one minute gone in the round. Balboa scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Balboa seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Stafford does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Balboa trying to control the pace. Stafford has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Balboa is working away from the top position though. Balboa stalling. Stafford throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Balboa wants to get back to his feet.
Balboa prevents Stafford from standing back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Stafford is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Stafford is doing well to control the position and prevent Balboa from advancing to side control. Balboa content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Diego Balboa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Balboa gets the takedown into side control. Stafford throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stafford swings and misses with a shot to the body and Balboa counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Balboa misses with a head kick.
Stafford is looking to clinch. Balboa drops Stafford with a huge uppercut! Stafford drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Balboa is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!
