Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Johnny Tanaka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kordell Kingston!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Chris Saunders and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kingston shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Tanaka but Tanaka pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Kingston misses with a takedown attempt
and Tanaka counters with a stiff right hand.

Tanaka forces Kingston back against the cage and clinches.
Kingston looking for a takedown.
Johnny Tanaka has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kordell Kingston.
Kingston drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Tanaka gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Kingston is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Tanaka takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Kingston is trying to drag Tanaka to the mat but Tanaka just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Tanaka goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Tanaka throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Kingston.

Tanaka wants to break free but Kingston has control.

Tanaka pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kingston fails with the takedown

and Tanaka counters by moving into the clinch.
Kingston drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Tanaka gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Kingston.

Tanaka breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kingston gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Tanaka counters with a stiff right hand.
Tanaka connects with a looping right hand.

Kingston drives through with a takedown into Tanaka's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Tanaka stalks Kingston and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Kingston's face. Kingston staggers backwards, shaken.

Kingston closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Tanaka quickly recovers to half guard.
Tanaka tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Kingston manages to move to mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kingston wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Kingston takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That kick from Tanaka tenderised Kingston's leg. Kingston is trying to keep his angry face on.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tanaka, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
