Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jose Maichuso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benny Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cortez is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Brazilian Fight Song by Stephane Attias. Benny Cortez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Paulo Santos and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cortez moves into the clinch.
Cortez content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Cortez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Maichuso shoots in and bounces Cortez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Maichuso lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Cortez is controlling Maichuso's posture.
Maichuso has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Cortez wants to get back to his feet but Maichuso is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Maichuso could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Cortez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Maichuso sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cortez somewhat.
Maichuso appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Maichuso throws a lazy head kick
and Cortez counters with a three punch combo that has Maichuso backing up. Maichuso nods at Cortez to acknowledge the strikes.
Cortez lands with a straight right. Maichuso didn't see that one coming.
Maichuso is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Maichuso closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cortez's guard.
Cortez uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Cortez looks winded!
Maichuso fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Cortez to the ground. Maichuso is now in Cortez's guard.
Cortez pushes Maichuso off and gets back to his feet.
Cortez gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Maichuso slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Maichuso stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cortez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Maichuso drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cortez manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Maichuso has Cortez in his guard.
Cortez wants to stand and escape but instead Maichuso has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Maichuso has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Benny Cortez will probably get the nod.

Cortez clinches up with Maichuso and pushes him back against the cage.

Cortez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Maichuso sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cortez's guard.

Maichuso is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Cortez is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
