PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Elmer Sharp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zlatimir Petrov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zlatimir Petrov will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Elmer Sharp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Zlatimir Petrov!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Taro Takaoka and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sharp gets caught napping as Petrov dives in and scores a takedown. Sharp manages to retain guard.

Petrov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sharp has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Petrov has managed to get both his arms back between Sharp's legs - danger averted.
Petrov throws a big elbow that misses.
Petrov is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Sharp keeping moving, preventing Petrov from controlling successfully.

Sharp is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sharp being controlled here, momentarily.

Sharp is controlling Petrov's posture.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Sharp tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Petrov clinches.

Petrov manages to break the clinch.

Petrov drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Petrov wants to get up but he can't break Sharp's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Petrov has gone for a leg lock! Sharp slips out almost immediately though and dives into Petrov's guard.

Sharp avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Sharp stopping the sweep attempt from Petrov.
Petrov wants to get back to his feet but Sharp passes into half guard.
Petrov wants to control but Sharp is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Sharp seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The fighters are battling for position here. Petrov manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Sharp stays in close to Petrov's body and controls the position.
Sharp makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Sharp distracts Petrov with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Sharp postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Petrov is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sharp, into his guard.


Petrov is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Sharp is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Sharp has escaped and now he's on top!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Petrov looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Sharp puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Sharp controlling the pace.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sharp working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Elmer Sharp will probably get the nod.
That's time! Sharp's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Sharp misses with a body punch
and Petrov counters with a stiff right hand.

Petrov looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Petrov not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Sharp looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Petrov is looking to advance position but Sharp won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Petrov trying to control the action but Sharp is working from the bottom.

Petrov slows the pace down in half guard.

Petrov tries to stand but can't do so whilst Sharp controls his leg.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Petrov throws a half hearted mid kick.

Petrov fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sharp to the ground. Petrov is now in Sharp's guard.
Sharp is looking to stand back up but Petrov counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Sharp.

Zlatimir Petrov has got the better of the ground game so far.

Petrov is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Petrov stands up from half guard.

Petrov manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Sharp on his heels. He'll look to pass Sharp's guard now, I'm sure.

Sharp had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Petrov defends it easily.

Petrov trying to control the position from guard on top but Sharp is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sharp is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Petrov is looking to work some ground and pound but Sharp has wrist control.
Petrov is stalling in the full guard.
Petrov would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sharp is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Sharp gets a clinch.

Petrov pulls Sharp into guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Petrov isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Sharp stacks Petrov on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Sharp!
Petrov is breathing heavily.

Sharp tries for a kimura but Petrov is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zlatimir Petrov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Sharp tries to clinch up.
Sharp lands a nice leg kick that just misses Petrov's sensitive parts.

Petrov throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sharp tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Petrov is in Sharp's guard.
Sharp wants to get back to his feet but Petrov passes into half guard.

Petrov moves into full mount! Sharp won't be happy about that!

Sharp holds on for dear life.
Petrov throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Petrov wants to control the pace but Sharp is squirming around nicely.

Petrov is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Sharp has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Sharp!

Petrov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Petrov looking for a sweep. Not yet Petrov, not yet.
Petrov is controlling Sharp's posture.
Petrov wants to sweep but no luck.
Petrov takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Petrov is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sharp looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Petrov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sharp swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Zlatimir Petrov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Petrov has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
