The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith throws a sloppy head kick

and DeSalvo counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
DeSalvo trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom.
Smith is trying to keep DeSalvo in close.
DeSalvo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Smith is keeping the position for now.

DeSalvo drops back looking for a leg! Smith is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Smith manages to kick DeSalvo off! DeSalvo jumps back into Smith's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
DeSalvo is pushing down on Smith's leg trying to pass to half guard. Smith is fighting to maintain full guard but DeSalvo has managed to sneak the leg through.

He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Smith looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by DeSalvo! Submission of the night perhaps?
