Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Brent Boston! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ryan Cambridge! The judges for this bout are William Gold, Sam Margolis and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cambridge misses with a double jab
and Boston counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cambridge won't be happy with that. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cambridge is pushing Boston's head away, looking to escape. Boston manages to hold on to the position though. Boston creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Cambridge pushes Boston away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Boston gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Boston lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Cambridge pushes Boston away and creates a bit of space to escape. Cambridge is trying to get back to his feet. Cambridge bucks up and tries to throw Boston off but instead Boston has got his back! Cambridge is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Boston is punishing Cambridge with strikes - can he finish him?! Boston throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Cambridge!
This has been an exciting period of action! Boston lands punches and elbows. Cambridge is trying to stand back up. Boston has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Cambridge's body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boston's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Boston lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Cambridge covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Boston has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Boston scoring with big shots to the body. Cambridge is looking for a way out. A despairing look towards the ref and the official steps in to stop the fight. Cambridge was obviously done but didn't want to tap out.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Brent Boston! Brent Boston retains his super heavyweight title!
