PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Caio Bottura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyeis Michel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bottura comes to the cage accompanied by Face The Pain. Tyeis Michel acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Caio Bottura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tyeis Michel!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Francis DeMontford and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bottura falls off balance throwing a combination

and Michel counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Bottura has hold of Michel's hands but Michel slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Bottura works his way to full guard. Good work.
Michel postures up.
Michel lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Bottura trying to keep a closed guard but Michel is proving a slippery customer.
Bottura seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It looks like Michel might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Michel has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Bottura is looking for a triangle but Michel pushes his legs off easily.
Bottura bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Michel's guard.

Bottura slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Michel controls Bottura momentarily but Bottura frees himself.
Bottura forces his way into half guard.

Bottura is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Michel sees it coming and defends easily.

Bottura passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Michel!
Michel wants to control but Bottura is having none of it.
Michel has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Bottura wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Michel is squirming around, avoiding Bottura's attempts to control the action.

Michel gets back to half guard.

Bottura wants to pass to mount but Michel is defending the position.
Michel tries to get to full guard but Bottura has control of the leg.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bottura is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Michel is looking to improve his position.

Michel is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Bottura pulls his head out easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bottura wants to pass the guard but Michel is defending well.
Bottura looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Michel is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Michel is staying active underneath Bottura, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bottura wants to pass to mount but Michel is defending the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Michel moves out of range of the strikes.
Bottura misses with a series of wild punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Caio Bottura will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Bottura misses with a hook. Michel ducked under it nicely.
Michel fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Michel tries to move into range but Bottura moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
A left lands for Bottura.
Michel bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Michel has a takedown stuffed.

Michel manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Bottura on his heels. He'll look to pass Bottura's guard now, I'm sure.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Michel wants to control from the top but Bottura keeps moving.
Michel is working Bottura over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bottura tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Bottura is trying to control the position but Michel postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nice uppercut lands for Bottura. That snapped Michel's head back.

and Michel counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Bottura is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Michel postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Michel controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Michel slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Bottura is looking to regain half guard here but Michel keeps moving and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Michel scores with a couple of short elbows.
Bottura is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at LOD: Black Label, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Bottura sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Tyeis Michel showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Nice straight punches there by Bottura. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Bottura.
Bottura lands with a nice combination. Michel backs away looking to recover.
Bottura feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Michel's calf.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bottura lying in Michel's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. Michel decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick! Bottura taps! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
