PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Darren Austin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Gut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Austin comes into the arena with Linkin Park - Bleed It Out blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Darren Austin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Gut!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Alyssa Summers and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gut wants to clinch up but Austin keeps it at a distance.

Austin fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gut, pushing him back against the cage.
Gut is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Austin gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Austin wants a takedown but no success here.
Gut tries for a takedown. No joy.
Gut tries to break the clinch but Austin is controlling the position.

Austin jumps guard.
Gut trying to stand up but can't free himself from Austin's guard.
Gut scoring with some ground and pound.
Gut must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gut thows a big elbow that misses.
Gut wants to control from the top but Austin keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Austin wants to sweep but no luck.

Gut wants to stand but Austin has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Austin is on top in guard.

Austin stands and steps away. Gut gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Gut clinches with his opponent.
Gut jumps guard but Austin stands there with Gut around his waist. Gut gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Darren Austin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Gut.
Gut tries to pull guard but Austin won't allow it.

Austin has Gut pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Austin pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Gut tumbling to the mat - Austin dives into Gut's guard.

Gut is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Austin shoots in looking for a takedown. Gut tries to sprawl out of it but Austin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gut manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Austin throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gut doesn't manage to clinch there - Austin circles away.
Gut with a poor takedown

and Austin counters with a shoot takedown. Gut fights it but they end up in guard.
Gut really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Austin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gut had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Austin is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Gut Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Austin's back instead.
Austin breaks Gut's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Austin working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Gut is trying to control the position from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Gut counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Austin!
Austin is squirming around, avoiding Gut's attempts to control the action.

Gut goes for an armbar but Austin turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Austin.
Austin wants to control from the top but Gut keeps moving.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gut not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Austin stands up from Gut's guard - Austin perhaps looking for a knockout.
Austin shoots in looking for a takedown. Gut tries to sprawl out of it but Austin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gut manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Austin holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Austin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Austin fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darren Austin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Darren Austin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's time! Austin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

and Gut counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Gut.
Austin can't get the takedown.
Gut tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Austin jumps guard but Gut stands there with Austin around his waist. Austin gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Austin wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Gut goes for a takedown in the clinch but Austin prevents it.
Austin is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gut escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gut throws a head kick that misses
and Austin counters with a leg kick.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Gut takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Austin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Gut tries to strike from the bottom.
Austin seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Austin is fighting to break Gut's control of his arms but Gut is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Gut is looking to stand up but Austin isn't so interested in that idea.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Austin not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Austin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gut paws at him with a jab and circles away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Austin misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Gut changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Austin looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Gut stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Austin gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Gut counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Gut thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Austin's head.
Gut wants to stand up but Austin manages to regain full guard.
Austin is controlling Gut's posture.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mike Gut comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Austin has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
