PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Richie Maldoa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Long Pong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richie Maldoa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Long Pong!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maldoa moves in looking to clinch but Pong pushes him off.
Maldoa looks to land a combination but Pong avoids it well.
Pong misses with a jab, cross combination.
Maldoa really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Maldoa tries to clinch up but Pong circles away and keeps his distance.
Pong avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Pong on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Pong keeps the fight on the outside.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Pong.
Maldoa is trying to get back to half guard.

Maldoa's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Pong tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Maldoa smiles and moves away.

Pong tries to keep at a distance but Maldoa has taken the fight into the clinch.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pong throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Pong is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Richie Maldoa dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and Pong decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Maldoa's guard.
Pong missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Pong wants to stand and escape but instead Maldoa has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Pong has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Maldoa tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Maldoa will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Pong is looking for a sweep.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Maldoa wants to control but Pong is keeping him busy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Pong holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Maldoa is trying to stall.
Maldoa has a couple of punches blocked by Pong.

Pong has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Maldoa can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Maldoa decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Pong, up you get!

Long Pong showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Pong is keen to just control but Maldoa is a slippery customer.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Pong wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Maldoa has him pressed against the cage.

Maldoa reaches up to try and control the position but Pong seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Maldoa rolls and tries to escape and now Pong has his back!

Pong doesn't have the hooks in and Maldoa manages to turn into his guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pong is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Pong is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Maldoa wants to pass the guard but Pong is keeping the position.

Pong had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Maldoa is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Pong Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Maldoa's back instead.
Pong is not going to allow Maldoa to sit and survive in this position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Long Pong comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Pong has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
