PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joe Ryzon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bubba Blue (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bubba Blue will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joe Ryzon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bubba Blue!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Roosa Järviläinen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blue keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A punch combination from Blue misses.
Ryzon goes for a double leg but Blue avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Blue continues to drive forward.
Ryzon pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Blue fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ryzon, pushing him back against the cage.
Blue is trying to break the clinch but Ryzon has him pressed against the cage.

Blue breaks the clinch.

Blue pushes Ryzon up against the cage in a clinch.

Blue escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Blue lands a right hook to the body.
A jab lands there for Blue.
Ryzon shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Blue but Blue pushes him off and we're back to square one.
It seemed like Blue was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Ryzon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ryzon tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Blue manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Ryzon gets tackled into the cage by Blue. Blue maintains the clinch.
Ryzon can't get the takedown.
Ryzon definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Ryzon gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Ryzon controlling the pace.
Blue wants to control the action here but instead Ryzon manages to pass to full mount!

Ryzon avoids the attempt from Blue to control.
Blue keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Blue tries to lock up and control but Ryzon gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Ryzon throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Ryzon wants to take Blue's back here but Blue is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Blue is trying desperately to improve position.
Blue slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Ryzon thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Ryzon seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Blue does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Ryzon is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Ryzon has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ryzon seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Blue for as long as he can get away with.
Ryzon wants to take a breather but Blue is having none of it.
Blue is trying to control but can't.

Ryzon seems to be looking for submissions.

Ryzon takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ryzon lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Blue is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ryzon pulls his head out easily.
Ryzon seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Blue does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Ryzon is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Blue is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Ryzon with the ground and pound but Blue uses the opportunity to regain guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Blue is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ryzon defends well.
Ryzon is stalling in the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Bubba Blue will probably get the nod.
That's time! Ryzon's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Ryzon doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Blue counters with a stiff right hand.
Ryzon fails with a takedown attempt.

Blue rushes Ryzon and presses him up against the cage.
Blue has Ryzon pressed against the cage, preventing Ryzon from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ryzon has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Blue regains guard immediately.
Blue not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Ryzon got a little sloppy there for a moment and Blue has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ryzon has managed to get both his arms back between Blue's legs - danger averted.

Blue is adopting a defensive guard.

Blue has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ryzon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Ryzon slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Ryzon advances to half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ryzon uses his free foot to push down on Blue's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Blue.
Ryzon fails to take his opponent's back.
Ryzon looking to control but Blue is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Ryzon looking to control and managing it successfully.
Ryzon throws a strike there. Blue manages to avoid it well and slips a leg under to get to half guard.
Ryzon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Blue keeps working.
Ryzon prevents Blue from improving his position.

Ryzon seems to be working for a kimura but Blue defends the submission attempt.
Ryzon wants to get back to his feet.
Blue wants to get back to full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Ryzon lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Blue wants to stand back up but Ryzon manages to pass into side control.

Ryzon tries for a kimura but Blue is defending well.
Ryzon trying to control the position but Blue is working away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Ryzon dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Ryzon throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Blue's waist but Blue gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ryzon off to one side.
Blue changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Ryzon tries to clinch up but Blue circles away and keeps his distance.

Ryzon has Blue up against the cage in a clinch.

Ryzon lands a takedown into guard.

Blue has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Ryzon has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Blue wants to break free but Ryzon has control.

Ryzon has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Blue is trying to keep an underhook but Ryzon manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Blue looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Blue is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ryzon is taking a breather. Blue says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Ryzon thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Blue's head.

Blue is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ryzon pulls his head out easily.
Ryzon looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ryzon is thwarting Blue's attempts to control the position.
Ryzon takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Ryzon passes into side control, despite Blue's attempt to control the position.
Blue is not content to let Ryzon control the position.
Ryzon in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Blue can't do much from the bottom here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ryzon is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Blue's shoulder. That is not cool.

Ryzon is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Blue has escaped the position, nice work there.
Ryzon passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Blue!
Ryzon avoids the attempt from Blue to control.
Ryzon looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The referee warns Blue that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Blue is just holding on here. Ryzon manages to take his back.
Ryzon has the hooks in. Blue is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Ryzon looking to break Blue's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Blue remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Ryzon will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Ryzon is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Blue. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.
A lull in the action here.
Ryzon throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Blue is trying to break free.

Ryzon working for a choke but Blue is defending well.

I think Ryzon has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
