Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mats Thoreson! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dwayne Boskins! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thoreson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Boskins, pushing him back against the cage. Thoreson just leaning against Boskins, taking a breather. Boskins tries for a takedown. No joy.
Boskins's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Boskins has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Boskins swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Thoreson checks a low kick from Boskins. Thoreson looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Boskins throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Thoreson moves into the clinch. Boskins has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Thoreson after a bit of a struggle. Thoreson tries for a takedown but Boskins manages to get underhooks.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Thoreson effectively controlling the action here. Boskins pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Nice body punch from Boskins.

Thoreson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Boskins swats him away and circles back towards the center. A punch combination from Boskins misses. Boskins lands a lovely overhand right. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Boskins lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Boskins looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Thoreson is fending him off so far but Boskins persists. Nope, Thoreson circles away and we're back to standing. Thoreson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Boskins.

Thoreson showed some decent athleticism there. Boskins manages to escape and get back to his feet! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Thoreson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. The fighters circle momentarily. Boskins darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Mats Thoreson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dwayne Boskins. Boskins falls off balance throwing a combination
and Thoreson makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Boskins changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Thoreson tries to avoid it but Boskins manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Thoreson to the ground. Thoreson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Thoreson wants to clinch. Boskins finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Nope, Thoreson circles away and we're back to standing. Thoreson moves away from the strike by Boskins. Thoreson seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Thoreson scores with a push kick. Boskins is breathing heavily. Boskins feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Thoreson pushes Boskins off and gets back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Thoreson controlling from the top position. Thoreson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Boskins controls Thoreson momentarily but Thoreson frees himself. Thoreson trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Boskins manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Boskins pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Thoreson is keeping the position for now. Thoreson wants to stand up but Boskins is controlling him.

Thoreson has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Boskins is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Thoreson checks a leg kick. Boskins tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Thoreson defends well and Boskins ends up having to push Thoreson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Boskins is looking for a sweep. You can see the frustration on Boskins's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Thoreson is trying to control the action in half guard but Boskins is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That made a horrendous noise. Thoreson throws a mid kick that lands with a slap. Boskins throws a half hearted mid kick. Boskins misses with the body kick and Thoreson counters with a series of strikes. Boskins will be more careful next time no doubt. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. A big left from Boskins misses. Mats Thoreson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Boskins closes the distance and clinches up with Thoreson, looking for a takedown. Boskins pushes Thoreson against the cage but Thoreson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. It looked like Thoreson was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Dwayne Boskins has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
