5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jermey Hritzkowin! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yukihiro Shimada and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vanderbeet connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Hritzkowin momentarily.
Vanderbeet uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hritzkowin. Hritzkowin throws a right and a left that both miss. Hritzkowin explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. Hritzkowin gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Vanderbeet moves out of range of the strikes. Hritzkowin has Vanderbeet up against the cage in a clinch.
Vanderbeet struggles to land a body shot inside as Hritzkowin controls his hands.
Vanderbeet lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Hritzkowin or not. Vanderbeet lands with a light punch inside. Vanderbeet misses with a punch to the body.
Hritzkowin swings wildly with an uppercut but Vanderbeet uses good head movement to avoid it. Hritzkowin creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. Vanderbeet has a couple of punches blocked by Hritzkowin.

That's one minute gone in the round. Hritzkowin throws a head punch that misses. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Hritzkowin. Vanderbeet turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Vanderbeet in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Hritzkowin is not content to let Vanderbeet control the position. Hritzkowin tries to strike from the bottom but misses. Vanderbeet lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Hritzkowin down.
Vanderbeet lands a nice forearm strike. Hritzkowin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vanderbeet. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Hritzkowin takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The strikes coming from Vanderbeet are missing the target in this wave of attacks. An elbow from Vanderbeet crashes against the mat.
Vanderbeet grinds an elbow into Hritzkowin's temple. This has been an exciting period of action! Vanderbeet wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hritzkowin, who protects the arm well.

Vanderbeet remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Vanderbeet goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Hritzkowin has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Vanderbeet but great work by Hritzkowin. Vanderbeet manages to get back to half guard. Vanderbeet looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Hritzkowin wants to pass the guard but Vanderbeet is defending well. Vanderbeet is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hritzkowin's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hritzkowin's back! Vanderbeet lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Hritzkowin hold on?!
