The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kennedy fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Burton checks it well. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Kennedy has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Kennedy looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Burton shoots in and gets a takedown into Kennedy 's guard. Burton is stalling in the full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Burton trying to control the position from guard on top but Kennedy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Burton postures up in Kennedy 's guard and throws a big left but Kennedy blocks it. Burton wants to control from the top but Kennedy keeps moving. Kennedy utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Burton throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kennedy works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Burton not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Burton looking to sit in guard and control but Kennedy gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's one minute gone in the round. Burton is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Kennedy rolls with it to try and escape but Burton cranks on the arm and Kennedy is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Michael Burton!
