Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mustapha Shiit! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
65 - 29 - 4, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alpo Wednesday! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Emerson Jorge and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shiit misses with a body shot.
Shiit throws a hook but Wednesday avoids it easily. Wednesday stuffs the takedown. Shiit uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Wednesday. Shiit on the wrong end of a nice jab. A slow jab from Shiit misses its intended target. Wednesday is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Shiit misses with a low kick.
Wednesday takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Wednesday throws a right and a left that both miss. A right-left combo lands from Wednesday. Shiit blocks a jab. Shiit misses with a straight right. Wednesday tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Shiit manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Wednesday walks into a left hand. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Wednesday lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Shiit backs up against the cage.
Shiit bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Shiit shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Wednesday manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shiit landing with the ground and pound. Shiit has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Wednesday manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shiit manages to get himself to full guard.
Wednesday got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shiit has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wednesday has managed to get both his arms back between Shiit's legs - danger averted. Wednesday avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Wednesday not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Shiit working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wednesday doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wednesday manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Shiit has a closed guard, preventing Wednesday from standing up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wednesday trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Wednesday trying to control but Shiit is working from the bottom. Shiit looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Shiit looking for a triangle here. Wednesday is fighting it but it looks tight! Shiit pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Wednesday is tapping out - this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Mustapha Shiit! A relieved looking Mustapha Shiit thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
