Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Samu Paelinck! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jimmie Connor! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paelinck connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Connor momentarily.
Connor dodges the punch combination from Paelinck.
Connor looks like he wants to counter punch here. Paelinck connects with a body shot that sends Connor's belly button to the back. Paelinck throws a shot to the body.
Paelinck lands a jab to the head.
Connor dives in for a single leg takedown but Paelinck sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Paelinck stuffs the takedown. Connor moves forwards but Paelinck connects with a nice, crisp jab. Paelinck has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Paelinck tests Connor's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Connor is rocked! Paelinck is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Connor's half guard. Connor tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Paelinck manages to move to mount!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Paelinck tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Connor can do anything to dispel that myth. Paelinck trying to control but Connor is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paelinck controlling the position easily from mount. Connor tries to get back to half guard but can't. Paelinck landing strikes from the mount and Connor is in trouble! Paelinck sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Paelinck lands a big elbow. Connor is still in real trouble! Can Paelinck finish him?
That's two minutes gone in the round. Connor takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Paelinck's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Samu Paelinck! Samu Paelinck made sure to give a little speech post fight, saying 'Go ahead and say it, Jim. 'HUR DUR I'LL GET HIM NEXT TIME!' ...No you won't. There's me, and then there's you. You are 100% outclassed. Just retire. '. In defeat, Jimmie Connor stepped up to the mic, saying 'I'LL GET BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD AND SEE WHAT WENT WRONG , I WILL BE BACK '.
