PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Calvin Kidd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kalle Kovakenka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Calvin Kidd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kalle Kovakenka!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Tarja Halkonen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kovakenka with a poor takedown

and Kidd moves into the clinch.
Kovakenka is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Kidd is keeping busy.
Kovakenka is working for takedown but Kidd is calmly controlling the position for now.
Kovakenka tries to pull guard but Kidd holds him up against the cage and eventually Kovakenka drops back down to his feet.
Calvin Kidd has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kalle Kovakenka.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kovakenka has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kidd is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Kovakenka.
A lull in the action here as Kidd stalls from top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kidd creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Kidd remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kidd in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Kidd's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Kidd has hold of Kovakenka's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Kovakenka seems comfortable defending it but Kidd has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Kovakenka is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Kovakenka is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Kidd couldn't care less - he's delighted!
