Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David Byrne!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Zack Wright!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Alexandre Firmino and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Byrne closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Wright seems a little lost for a moment, as Byrne dominates the positioning.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Byrne is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Wright is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Byrne is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Wright will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Byrne has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Wright is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Byrne asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Wright manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Byrne bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wright's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wright has his feet on Byrne's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Wright pivots, looking for a leg kick but Byrne is out of range and Wright settles back down.
Wright tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Byrne paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Byrne shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Wright's guard.

Byrne is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Wright's shoulder. That is not cool.
Wright is pushing Byrne's head away, looking to escape. Byrne manages to hold on to the position though.

The referee stands the fighters back up. David Byrne just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Wright tries to clinch up.
Byrne connects with a body shot.

Byrne shoots in and bounces Wright off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Byrne not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Byrne rushes Wright and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Wright tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Byrne has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Wright is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Byrne is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Byrne is on top in guard.
Byrne slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Wright takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Well Byrne has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
